Assistant Professor

Bio

Dr. Austen Anderson received his Ph.D. from the University of Miami in Counseling Psychology. Throughout his training and career he has been interested in understanding well-being and what we can do to promote it. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System in Waco, TX and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the VA's VISN 17 Center of Excellence for Research on Returning War Veterans. His current research focuses on identifying the lifestyle behaviors (e.g. diet, exercise, sleep, time spent in nature) that most strongly predict mental health and well-being. He is also specifically interested in better understanding the benefits of spending time in nature and the role of lifestyle change in traditional behavioral interventions.
